About Me

It was three years ago, when I was buried deep in my first year of grad school (for Linguistics), that I decided I really, truly needed to teach myself how to knit. Immediately! I gathered all manner of colorful how-to books from the library to get started. And then I discovered the magic of the Internet. It was all the colorful photos of FOs and WIPs and sensory descriptions of yarn and the process that really got me hooked – er, needled.
I must worn you though, I’m becoming increasingly unable to ignore my equal love for the beauty of handmade quilts.
I’m 29 years old (for a little bit longer). I now live in Denver with my husband and my dog. Previously I lived in Iowa City where I got my master’s degree in Linguistics, with an emphasis in teaching ESL. I want to be an ASL interpreter. I knit. I like to talk about knitting. I hope to meet other knitters in Denver soon.
You should know that I will probably talk about a couple of other things besides knitting such as the difference between American Sign Language and Manually Coded English systems, and why I think it matters, and how I really hate cooking (and cleaning) but am trying desperately to figure it out. And now, quilting. I’ll try to categorize my posts though so you can skip to what interests you.
Finally, you might be wondering what the name of this blog is all about. My uncle used to tell wonderful shaggy-dog stories when I was little. They are long rambling stories or jokes that suck you in and pull you along with intricate details, but turn out to have no point. A “yarn” if you will. I love absurd humor! Besides, all the good knitting and yarn puns were taken and this turned out to have a lot of meaning for me.
